Quarantine

  QUARANTINE INFORMATION FOR VISITORS TO NORFOLK ISLAND

Norfolk Island has its own Quarantine requirements for the importation of goods such as food, wooden artefacts, clothing and sporting equipment.

FOOD: Norfolk Island has available most foods and beverages which would be available in both Australia and New Zealand.

If food is to be imported it must be either commercially processed in Australia or New Zealand or be eligible for importation into either Australia or New Zealand. The commercial processing must be by either;

Preserved,
Freezing,
Drying,
Cooking.

All products must be in their original sealed packaging as packed by the commercial processor, the packaging must provide information as to the method of processing, ingredients etc. Foods containing meats will attract special attention unless they are products of Australia or New Zealand, poultry and pork products from New Zealand will not be permitted. Fresh fruit and vegetables will not be permitted. Any food not complying with above will be confiscated and destroyed.

WOOD AND CEREMONIAL CLOTHING: Any wooden items, clothing made from plant material (other than cotton) or animal products should be treated to comply with the import requirement AQIS would require should the items be imported into Australia. A certificate of treatment should accompany the goods. Any items not treated may be detained for treatment or held for re-export on departure.

SPORTING EQIPMENT: All sporting equipment such as shoes, golf clubs, and anything else which has and does come in contact with the soil should be thoroughly cleaned and sterilised using a laundry bleach prior to importation, if they are not clean on arrival they will be detained for cleaning or re-exported.

To avoid disappointment we ask that the above be complied with, if anyone requires further information inquiries can be made to the Norfolk Island Quarantine Department:
